Colonoscopy
is a procedure in which a flexible tube with a powerful light source is slowly
passed through the rectum into the large bowel (colon) for direct examination.
Conscious Sedation is the intravenous injection of
medication which sedates the patient for procedures to minimize any discomfort.
EGD (Esophogastroduodenoscopy)
is a procedure in which a flexible lighted tube is slowly passed through the
mouth into the esophagus, stomach and upper portion of the small intestine for direct
examination of those parts of the GI system.
ERCP (Endoscopic retrograde
cholangiopancreatography) is a procedure in which a flexible lighted tube is
passed through the mouth, esophagus, and stomach into the upper small intestine for direct
visualization of the common opening to ducts from the liver and pancreas. Once this is
identified, a narrow plastic tube is passed through the scope into the ducts. A contrast
material or "dye" is gently injected and x-ray pictures are taken which assist
the physician in evaluating your condition.
Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
is a procedure in which a flexible lighted tube is passed through the anus into the rectum
and lower part of the large bowel (colon) for direct examination.
Liver Biopsy is
a procedure in which a needle is inserted through the skin into the liver to obtain a
specimen of liver tissue for examination by a pathologist to determine the presence or
absence of liver disease.
Placement of PEG (Percutaneous
Gastrostomy tube) is a procedure in which a tube is passed from the stomach
through the skin to assist in drainage of the stomach or in delivering nutrition or
medications for patients who are unable to otherwise ingest adequate oral nutrition. |
