GERD and Barrett’s Esophagus
Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death, but esophageal cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers in the country. Dr. Kenneth Brown, recently discussed GERD, and its potential to cause a condition known as Barrett’s Esophagus, with Ron Corning, on WFAA’s Daybreak. Barrett’s Esophagus is found in 10–15% of people with chronic symptoms of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), more commonly known as heartburn. It is considered to be a premalignant condition because it is associated with an increased risk of esophageal cancer.
